Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ;AAPL) began sales of its latest iPhones on Sept.20, hoping that the strong demand for the new devices would help it to consolidate its position in the smartphone market.
The long queue at the US stores, after sales kicked off in Australia, Japan, China and Europe, blew-away the notion that Apple has been losing on the innovative front and pricing strategy, especially with its low cost iPhone 5C.
Apple priced the 16GB iPhone 5S at $199 with a two-year contract, or $649 without while the 5C costs $99 and $549, respectively. Virtually, the price difference between iPhone 5S and 5C is only $100, and that was the main worry for the Wall Street.
But, both the devices as well as the operating system iOS7 are getting positive reviews from all quarters. Walter Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal recommends iPhone 5s "for anyone looking for a premium, advanced smartphone." He calls the phone's Touch ID fingerprint sensor "a potentially game-changing hardware feature" and iOS 7 "a radically new operating system."

It’s been a bad day for iron miners like iron miners like BHP Billiton (BHP), Rio Tinto (RIO) and Vale (VALE) after Morgan Stanley cut its iron-ore price estimates. For Cliffs Natural Resources (CLF), the damage could be even worse.
ReutersMorgan Stanley’s Evan Kurtzand team explain why they think Cliffs Natural resources’ dividend is imperiled by lower iron-ore prices:
Morgan Stanley commodity team is lowering its iron price deck (2014 estimate falling to $105/t from $118/t and 2015 estimate declining to $90/t from $114/t)…Given weak pricing, we believe Cliffs could violate its credit facility max Funded Debt to EBITDA covenant. We forecast Funded Debt to EBITDA rising to ~4.0x by year-end 2014 vs. the permitted maximum of 3.5x. Without a renegotiation of terms, we think Cliffs could potentially be precluded from accessing its credit facility…
Given reduced cash flow generation and the possibility of a covenant violation, we believe the dividend may be at risk of being cut, particularly if the company acts to defend its credit rating. The common dividend requires ~$92m annually, rising to $108m after the preferred shares convert in 2016. We believe the company may be close to FCF breakeven before dividend payments beginning in 2015.
In a letter to shareholders, Casablanca Capital explained why they think much of Cliffs Natural Resources’ board has to go.
Since we began our campaign to create value for all of Cliffsshareholders late last year, we have consistently emphasized that the Company is substantially undervalued as a result of strategic missteps, blatant mismanagement and a misalignment of incentives between Cliffsshareholders and its Board of Directors and management…

Treasurer Joe Hockey said Yanzhou Coal Mining Co. (YZC) no longer needed to meet a Dec. 31 deadline for reducing its stake in Yancoal Australia Ltd. (YAL.AU) below 70%, citing the downturn in global coal prices. Yanzhou, which owns 78% of Yancoal Australia, had made the commitment in 2009 to complete its 3.5 billion Australian dollar (US$3.2 billion) takeover of Felix Resources Ltd.

China dominates global coal production, producing 47% of the world coal in 2013 and consuming just over 50%. Even so, Chinese coal companies have not managed to escape the market carnage experienced by major US coal producers like Peabody Energy (NYSE: BTU) and Arch Coal (NYSE: ACI), which have seen their share prices decline by 80% and 90% respectively since early 2011. For instance, the stock of major Chinese coal producer Yanzhou Coal Mining (NYSE: YZC), has also dropped nearly 80% since 2011.

Yanzhou Coal Mining (YZC) engages in the underground coal mining, as well as preparation, processing, sale and railway transportation of coal. This stock closed up 7.6% to $7.31 in Thursday's trading session.
Thursday's Range: $7.14-$7.31
52-Week Range: $6.68-$18.57
Thursday's Volume: 391,000
Three-Month Average Volume: 370,383From a technical perspective, YZC bounced sharply higher here right off some near-term support at $6.77 with above-average volume. This stock has been downtrending badly for the last six months, with shares plunging from its high of over $14 to its recent low of $6.68. During that move, shares of YZC have been consistently making lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of YZC have recently formed a double bottom chart pattern at $6.68 to $6.77. This stock now looks ready to reverse that downtrend and possibly trigger a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if YZC manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $7.76 to $8 with high volume.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in YZC as long as it's trending above its recent low of $6.77 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 370,383 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then YZC will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $9 to $10. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give YZC a chance to tag its next major overhead resistance levels at $10.67 to $11.11.
