Best Heal Care Stocks For 2015

Last December, Markel (NYSE: MKL  ) shocked the market by announcing a $3.1 billion deal to acquire fellow insurer Alterra Capital.

(NYSE: MKL  ) The deal not only unsettled investors by employing a combination of cash and stock, but it was also significantly larger than the typically small acquisitions that President and CIO Tom Gayner pursues through his Markel Ventures subsidiary. The market immediately punished shares of Markel by driving them down as much as 10% that day.

Even so, I remained optimistic in spite of the drop afterspeculating that the deal might also benefit Markel by giving Gayner more flexibility in the ways he invests both the company's insurance float and shareholder equity, which is a similar perk Warren Buffett enjoys as he invests for the much larger Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-B  ) (NYSE: BRK-A  ) .

    Logistics hub
Another top stock to consider buying is midstream operator Buckeye Partners (NYSE: BPL  ) . While a bulk of the company's assets are in the U.S., the crown jewel is its BORCO storage terminal business in the Bahamas. This asset is of strategic importance to the region as it provides Latin American producers with storage and blending options. As you can see in the map below, the asset's strategic location puts it in the best position to be a regional hub for the movement of crude oil and refined products. If oil production in the region comes as expected, the company has more than enough room to double its current capacity, which means lots of growth potential for investors.

For oil to go from the U.S. to Canada, a ban on oil exports in 1979 means that any company that wishes to export oil to Canada must receive a special license to do so. Both Valero (NYSE: VLO  ) and Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE: RDS-A  ) have these permits to ship oil to is refineries in Canada, and Buckeye Partners (NYSE: BPL  ) has just begun shipments of Bakken crude from its refinery in Albany, N.Y., to Irving Oil's refinery in St. John's, New Brunswick. These three companies have been the largest contributors to the spike in oil exports to Canada, but a more open export policy from the U.S. would make this exchange easier.
